t can be difficult to provide a useful review when previous guests have used all available superlatives. ||The Old Schoolhouse is why one stays at a B & B instead of a hotel or self-catering accommodation: pleasant interactions with one’s fellow beings. ||The proprietors, Ian and Kate, are charming and thoughtful. They make you feel at home and offer courtesies such as transportation and laundry facilities. ||During my stay, guests were from around the world. They provided a friendly, informative addition to extraordinary breakfasts—the menu for which is broad and varied, with the border breakfast (full English breakfast with haggis) available every day. In the evening, you come back to a serving of dessert in your room. ||The rooms are spotless and have all needed amenities. If you don’t want to spend time in the room, there’s a central sitting area that feels like a cozy library. ||The place is quiet, but only a short walk from a grocery and the town’s main square. It’s also close to the Haltwhistle Burn Footpath, which provides a lovely setting for a stroll. ||There is a parking area on site. ||For all you receive, the Old Schoolhouse is an exceptional value.

Overall excellent B&B. Comfortable well equipped rooms furnished to a high standard which were spotlessly clean. Home-baked cakes/biscuits, chocolates and fresh milk in rooms were a lovely treat. Delicious breakfasts with good choice of hot and cold food. Great communal area. Off street parking. Very welcoming hosts who really made us feel at home. Thank you Ian and Kate for a most enjoyable stay.

Just stayed for 2 nights and I absolutely cannot fault the place. Kate and Ian were such amazing hosts and nothing was a bother to them. Very comfy bed, very clean and the breakfasts are amazing. A 10 minute walk from the train station. 3 minute walk to the main street. 3 minute walk to Haltwhistle Burn which is a beautiful walk right round. Well worth a visit ?

The best accommodation we stayed at on our 21 day Pennine Way walk. Karen and Ian went above and beyond to make us feel very welcome and at home, including picking us up from Greenhead and doing laundry for us.|Our room was lovely and the lounge was stupendous with several comfy chairs. It was full of books, CDs and local leaflets.|Breakfast was a great treat with a wide range of quality products. We will be back

Everything about my stay was incredible. Ian and Kate the hosts were amazing, and very welcoming with the offer of a beer or soft drink upon my arrival.
The standard, cleanliness and quality of the rooms were impeccable but be assured also very comfortable and relaxing, welcoming whether you are just passing by, walking the area or like me on my motorbike.
Breakfast was simply amazing, probably the best I have ever had (honestly). A wide range of options, very generous portions, top ingredients and cooked to perfection. In an evening the dining area is available should you wish to treat yourself to a local takeaway, with cutlery and crockery available for your use also and a nice snug area should you wish to relax and read a book.
Parking is secure and there is a large garage should like me you be exploring the area on a motorbike.
No wording will truly portray how great this place is!

What a lovely stay! Great little bnb conveniently located near the train station. Delicious homemade cake upon arrival and an excellent hot breakfast with great vege options. The hospitality is next level - not only were our bikes kindly looked after in the garage all day after we checked out but we were given a lift up to the Sycamore gap walking trail. Would love to come back!
