Located just off a main route on the edge of Weston the Malt Shovel (Beefeater and Premier Inn) provides plenty of rooms, parking and a decent restaurant. Staff we met were friendly and helpful. Accommodation was decent and clean. Breakfast provided and good cooked meal and the lunch/ dinner menu showed a good choice at reasonable prices.

I was cold in this place. The table by the fire was taken, and even though I sat by a hot radiator, it was cold. Which may have been why the barmaid was so reluctant to move.
The table was pointed out, with instructions to order food at the bar. The menu was a mixture of mundane and weird and wonderful. I had 'drippy duck'? My partner had 'tumbled lamb' a dish that apparently the chef had invented himself. Served with seasonal veg, asparagus, and mangetout, it was December. My food was good, and although I thought it was dreadful,
my wife claimed she enjoyed hers.
Then we sat with our abandoned plates for 30 minutes with the barmaid feet away fiddling with a laptop. We paid at the bar and left without dessert, very disappointing.
All the staff should be taken to the Bower Inn for a lesson on how it's done properly at no extra cost.

Lovely pub on the inside so don't let the outside put you off. Good parking with disabled parking as well.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed for 2 nights in their little rooms at the back of the pub. They were quiet, plenty of room for a couple and our dog. We had dinner and breakfast which was good value for money and tasty.

Little gem of a place.||Was a little concerned it may have been noisy being a pub, but it was nice and peaceful.||There was an excellent choice of food, including vegetarian and gluten free. All cooked beautifully and well presented. This applied to both breakfast and evening dinner and was very reasonably priced.||Room was spacious, clean and well equipped (tv, bottled water, tea and coffee facilities along with liquid soap etc).||Highly recommended and would stay again if the opportunity ever arose.

Had a late afternoon family Sunday roast get together to say farewell to our granddaughter who was leaving to go to Boston University for a year.||All we can say is it was superb! Food was amazing, service first class and to make it really special for our granddaughter she presented with a ' good luck' cake.||6 out of 8 of us had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Wow! Meat, veg, presentation all first class (and plentiful) our other two meals were lasagne and a mixed grill. Again top notch.||Thank you. You made it really special. Can't wait to return.

My family and I were delighted by the quality of food and excellent value at the restaurant. Shelly looked after us very well. The place was immaculate. It is hard to imagine us not going back! A sensational afternoon!||The steak that I ordered was simply excellent. Kid friendly, dog friendly.... efficient and charming service all round. Could not recommend more highly.

The roast dinners are amazing!! I had slow cooked pork, my partner had beef and it was all faultless, lots and lots of veg choices including cauli cheese brought out in a separate bowl, mashed potatoes and roast potatoes, a big Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and extra gravy in a gravy boat. The meat was perfectly cooked. The lady working behind the bar was really lovely. The best roast dinner we've had so well be back.
