Purley station is served by southern trains which go to London Bridge, London Victoria and Coulsdon Town along with many other destinations. Also thameslink trains stop here which go to Gatwick Airport & Bedford. There are 6 platforms two entrances and exits at this station either end. There are waiting rooms and toilet facilities also. The platforms are long for 10 & 12 coaches for the trains.

I use this station quite a lot and it is quite a calm and long station! Serves most of the stations you'll need! Staff are very helpful! However announcements could be improved!

I had an issue with a return ticket purchased at another station that required a reprint when I was changing trains at Purley. Staff on the gateline were very helpful, checked if the ticket office would be able to help me with the problem and advised that I had plenty of time before my onward train because they knew the timetable. Ticket office resolved the issue and I went on with my day happily.

Can someone please explain to me how staff can put a sign on the passenger waiting room platform 5 saying ‘closed due to Covid-19’ (bear in mind this is mid August 2021 when nightclubs are open again !!?) and let all the staff use it as a rest room for themselves. To add insult to injury, platform 6 passenger waiting room is fully open and not closed due to Covid-19?! So according to the staff at Purley, I am at risk of catching Covid on platform 5 as it is a stronger variant, but I’m perfectly safe from it on platform 6 !!!! GIVE ME STRENGTH !!!!

When everything is running smoothly its a good station, large platforms for trains and easy to change for other stops towards Horsham, Caterham or East Croydon. However too often all the time the ticket machines break down and there's no people at the ticket counter so you're basically stuffed if you don't have a contsctless card. They take ages to fix them and if you're a frequent train user it will take at least 2 days before they get someone to fix it.Too often i'm frustrated me missing my train because I had to travel to a different station or to the other side of the station, both really inconvenient becsuse the machine only tool cash or a majority of the machines wernt working.Sometimes I've gotten there and just turned back and gone home because the machines were broken the entire week. It's not good enough for the area it needs sorting out

Came to Purley with my friends from Crawley, we're a group of 17-18 year olds who don't normally go out too far. We got off on the wrong side of the station and Google maps was telling us to go back through the station. Pressed the assist bell to ask for directions or to cut back through the station and was told "you must have a ticket to enter", which I appreciate of course however she hung up so I pressed it again and before I could ask anything about directions she shouted the same thing down the mic and said "CAN YOU STOP PRESSING THE BUTTON". Fortunately we found our way but don't ask for assistance as they won't help and will be rude.

Jason, an absolute star! My cousin left her phone and wallet in the train, somebody picked it up and gave everything to the station workers, leaving everything intact (I know, an angel) and Jason was the one that answered the phone when I called! He calmed us down and reassured us, he even put her phone on charge! God bless you Jason!
