My first visit to the town centre area after booking into the Premier Inn on Swan Street NN1. The town centre itself came as a complete surprise, the weather was good so it meant we could have a good explore around some lovely old buildings. The atmosphere was very uplifting and pleasant. Some on Google reviews have mentioned lots of homeless people. This is a problem no matter which area of the UK you visit. It is something to solve, not criticise. There were young individuals sleeping rough in the church grounds during the day. Their cloths were clean and washed, which goes against comments on here.

creepy, see a bunch of drunk and homeless people everywhere. Lots of men checking out young girls (literally younger then 15) inappropriately and its genuinely disgusting. Bunch of trash and vape shops. And also do beware of the homeless people even though they do see harmless but their always on drugs and will attack you if you "offend them".

We enjoyed ourselves. Don't expect to have your mind blown, but for a few hours we saw some nice buildings, visited the museum and had some food at the Italian bistro (very nice!)

During the day it's ok and pretty safe. There are a lot of homeless people drinking alcohol outside but they are harmless. I don't know how many vape shops one town needs but this is excessive and it seems like a lot of the privately owned off licenses and news agents sell them to kids. The market place is currently under construction and has been moved to the st. Peters square parking area. The range of shops is pretty good with a heavy concentration on mobile phone buy and sell shops and charity shops. Be careful buying a mobile charger from the privately owned shops as I was sold a fake Samsung charger which damaged my battery and cost me 79 pounds to replace.

Historical buildings. Busy high street. Variety of shos and limited paid parking. A diversion is in place so drive with caution and expect delays. Currently town Square is under renovation so not very picturesque.
