Yes you can probably bolt the 5-speed auto tranny from the Camry to the Scion's engine but you will have to swap the ECU from the Camry as well as the Scion ECU is not designed for a 5-speed auto, just the 4-speed. Now what he may have meant is that to physically fit the 2ZZ into the xB you must modify, or rebuil part of the chassis on one side. How he knows that, I am not sure. The engine idles rough when at stoplights, etc. You can feel it in the brake pedal and you can see the tach jumping around (not much, 100 rpm or so).
