We were very pleased with all the staff, service, and amenities at our Marriott in Durham, England. Some employees went above and beyond, however. My husband had had brain surgery almost two years ago. At this Marriott, we felt it was very tricky for my husband to get into and out of the tub early in our stay. I had packed a no-slip mat to use in the tub, but it was not much help. I was afraid that my husband was just going to have to sponge off for the rest of the trip. However, Stuart at the hotel found a chair that we could use as a shower chair, similar to my husband‘s full-fledged shower chair at home. Furthermore, Mr. Stewart helped us secure some bathmats under it to provide more stability. Shirley, a worker in housekeeping, found an actual bathmat that we could use, and we were good to go. Also, she gave us recommendations about stores and coffee shops in town. Finally, instead of just handing me an extra roll of toilet paper, she got it started and folded that nifty little triangle they make in toilet paper before she handed it to me. All in all, we were highly pleased with the amenities, the food, and the helpfulness of the staff.

Stayed overnight with the wife. No special occasion, just a night out somewhere different. Great location, near plenty of bars and restaurants. Room was lovely, very comfortable bed and lovely shower. Although some of the furniture looks a little bit dated. Staff were lovely, but we only really saw them on check in and check out as we were out in Durham for the majority of our stay. Can't comment on food as we didn't eat there. But given the standards of everything we did experience I'd guess you wouldn't be disappointed. I'd definitely return and definitely recommend.

Very impressive building with onsite parking, central location so nothing is too far away. Hotel inside is lovely and clean, staff mostly friendly and helpful. Paid for a queen room but sure we got a double, room was rather small with dark old fashioned furniture making it seem smaller but overall was clean with everything you need. Bed was super comfy we had a great sleep. |Breakfast has lots of options hot and cold, with any kind of tea you could think of. Lovely stay.

We booked the family room, hosting myself, my wife and our two daughters (2 years old and 10 months old) and was delighted with the size of it. The separate spaces for sleeping and lounging were useful and appreciated, particularly in the evening. The location of the hotel was perfect. We were a short walk from the key sights to see in the city, namely the cathedral and castle, which were a short walk away. The staff at the hotel were friendly and always keen to help. The staff at breakfast were particularly lovely and made the effort to positively interact with our daughters, which they greatly appreciated.

Brilliant location right next to Elvet bridge making all the Durham attractions super walkable. Has a large car park which is always a plus for me. Excellent breakfast and bar. Front desk were very friendly. Superior river view rooms are large, quiet and have great river views.

This hotel is beautiful and we had a fantastic time here. The service is straight five 5️⃣ stars ?, no compromise..

Friendly staff, comfortable beds ?, spacious rooms, clean, window view, high quality breakfast, conveniently located and the list could extend even further.

I was treated like a guest and I felt relaxed knowing that things are taken care of. However, the Spa is not operational and parking is £11 per night, which is well reasonable. I am glad that I have had the experience of staying here.

This part of Durham is beautiful..

After writing a bad review , and sorting the issues with the guest experience supervisor. I have to say our stay on Saturday was what I remember the Marriott to be like . From checking in to the fabulous room, the staff ,then breakfast and the special treats left in room everything was 110%.|Thank you so much again everyone

||The hotel was in a very convenient location with friendly helpful staff. A good sized room, and a good shower. There was a car park with plenty spaces. That was all good. ||What wasn't so good was the room overlooking a busy street with a loud traffic junction and a noisy pub at night.||There was no air con, you could only open windows a crack but had to close them at night because of the noise.|Practically every floor tile in the bathroom was cracked in several places.|The bedside lamp had a loose wire and wouldn't stay on. |There was an £11 pound a night parking charge!! |All these are relatively trivial, but irritating because the hotel are charging premium room rates. |Not the fault of hotel staff, but there was a long power cut at breakfast, so there was no hot food and limited hot water on the first day. It was a case of take what was left of the cold buffet (which wasn't much) |I felt a premium hotel should have offered a discount or voucher for those that took the brunt of the power cut, but it didn't happen. I should have asked I suppose. |The location was great, and parking was convenient, but for reasons above I would think twice before staying here again.
