I regret that it's taken me years to write this review but here I am as I believe it is important for customers to make informed decisions. Back in 2019 when Data Recovery Lab/Computer Doctor were based at Dephna House (same owners), I brought in a 4 TB Lacie hard drive to be recovered after it stopped working.

I was told in the original consultation that my data was estimated to be recoverable and that a donor hard drive would be required to do so because of faulty heads. After 3 months of much back and forth, I was told that my data wasn’t recoverable due to platter damage. I was sent back both my hard drive and I also requested the original donor drive which I had ordered/purchased from Data Recovery Lab. In total I'd spent £545 on the donor drive and attempt fee.

I then brought my hard drive to a different company who was able to recover 97% of my data. He told me the donor drive which I'd purchased from Data Recovery Lab was NOT compatible with my failed hard drive, in fact even stating to me "On this basis if the claim has been made that this HDD was used as a donor then I would have to doubt either the competence or authenticity with respect to recoverability of data".

This was particularly interesting because Data Recovery Lab had informed me that during the process of attempting recovery, the donor heads had been transplanted and calibrated successfully. Clearly this never actually took place as it would have been impossible with the donor drive. When I brought this up in later emails, I was given an excuse that they must have sent me the wrong drive. However, they would not provide any proof of purchasing a correct donor drive when I asked & said they did not have time to dig out old information from 'old cases' (this was 6 months after the 'attempted recovery')

Additionally, the other data recovery company informed me that my hard drive had been severely mishandled by Data Recovery Lab with parts missing which had the potential to affect future data recovery, stating to me "The lack of professionalism with respect to the rebuild and handling of the HDD is remarkable".

Months later, I reached out to Data Recovery Lab to request a refund for the donor drive and attempt fee. It took months of back & forth/stalling & finally me preparing letters/documentation to bring to small claims court before they finally refunded me.

So in summary, I did get my money back but it was over a year after the 'attempted recovery' and a LOT of hassle/time spent/stress. I can't speak for their other customers that I've seen in their google reviews. I can only speak for my own experience but I hope that it's helpful to some people.

I had an issue with my external hard drive, it had all my family videos and photos on. Went to a local high street phone/ computer repair shop but no joy. Data recovery lab seems to be directed towards companies, legal forms rather than public. They were friendly and helpful and explained each step. The data was recovered and most importantly the file structure which goes over years was intact. Wasn't cheap but worth the money. I should back up to the cloud!
