Underwhelmed! Barratt homes are great when you're purchasing a home, but as neighbour's after the purchase they are a total nuisance.

If you purchase early on a development expect a few years of misery, forget summers, and outside living! The level of nuisance through dust is excessive and by law, they must control it, by storing fine materials undercover and damping fine materials and roadways but they choose not to.

Contractors arrive really early and park anywhere, double-parked in some cases. We have had their compound alarm go off just after contractors left, it continued all night even though most of the estate contacted the hotline, it was turned off when contractors turned up the next morning. Working outside of hours also seems normal.

I would not recommend Barratt homes.

It feels somewhat odd leaving a review for such a major purchase 🙂 I write it, however, because it really is very well deserved.

I have been thoroughly impressed with Barratt, right from the initial conversations with Thomas and Tracy in the sales office, to my experience with the conveyancer and mortgage advisor that they recommended, to having the initial snags fixed with Jamie, to the ongoing support on developing issues from their central office. They've been supportive, prompt, and honest throughout.

Even aspects that are less in their direct control have been positive. For example, the people in the neighbourhood that I have met thus far are lovely and there is already a nice family-centric atmosphere on the development.

So, a little over 6 months in, the overall experience has been excellent and I would gladly recommend them to others.

Be careful with all of the paperwork from Barratts. We are purchasing a 15 year old house they built in Chilwell and they are not able to say if we have right of way to a garage with no other access but through a shared car park. All of this should be sorted in legal paperwork at the time it was sold, plus the owner might need to pay 15 year's of backdated management fees. Not something you would want if you ever come to sell your Barratt home. Just be careful and get a really good conveyancer as you can't trust they will do everything they should
