The Hebden Suspension Bridge in North Yorkshire was built in 1885 by William Bell, the local blacksmith, and is a notable landmark on the river-side path.
The bridge was built after a local man drowned while crossing the stepping stones on the River Wharfe below Hebden. The bridge was funded by public subscription and made from recycled materials, including 262 yards of redundant steel rope from the Hebden Moor Mining Company.
The bridge was officially opened in 1885 with a public tea and a brass band.
In 1937, the bridge was damaged in a heavy flood and the central supporting pier was removed. The National Park Authority recently refurbished the bridge.
The bridge is now a popular public footpath. The base of the central supporting pier can still be seen in low water conditions.
Well worth a visit.

A must see… park on the Main Street at Hebden, then follow the signs down towards the fields and it’ll take about 10-15 mins to get there. Once you’ve past the house, cross the road and join the field opposite. You’ll see the bridge ahead!
It’s fun crossing over and even better when you return via the stepping stones!!

Fantastic river walk from Grassington to Hebden Bridge. This walk is flat and fairly easy to navigate with a few gates to negotiate probably best suited to having walking boots.

A very nice and peaceful walk along the side of the river. The view from the Center of the bridge is breath taking. Plenty of wildlife and the trees 🌲 on there own are well worth a visit. Most of the walk is along a treated surface so it is easy. The bridge is narrow and sways when walked over. One of my 🐕 didn’t like it.

Took a while to find as Google maps kept trying to get me to go the other way, but once we got there it was lovely, I went over the suspension bridge and came back across the stepping stones, loved it.

We walked from Grassington Village, to the National park centre then along the public bridal ways and back again. In total I think it was around an hour, lovely easy walk.
The bridge is so cool! Impressive to photograph and a bit nausea inducing to walk across.

While stepping stones were covered by high level of Wharfe river this bridge is a safe way to the other bank. Very narrow and swaying can make you funny thrill. Fantastic views all the way.
