Disappointing Experience with Mercedes-Benz Approved Used Cars

I purchased an A-Class Mercedes-Benz in October 2023 from Mercedes Harrogate without seeing the car in person, relying on the dealership’s good reviews and the reassurance of the “Mercedes-Benz Approved Used” promise. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from what I expected.

From the beginning, I noticed the paint on the car chipped very easily, which seemed unusual but, as this was my first Mercedes, I assumed it was just a characteristic of the brand. Over time, other issues started to arise, such as cheap plastic components breaking, which further disappointed me given Mercedes’ reputation for quality.

The real shock came when I took the car to have a scratch on the back bumper repaired. The technician informed me that the bumper had been repainted previously and pointed out that the paintwork was done poorly. In fact, paint in unrelated areas of the bumper was flaking off due to the low-quality work. This was appalling, especially considering I paid extra for a "Mercedes-Benz Approved" vehicle, expecting the car to meet a higher standard.

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. Paying the additional premium for the peace of mind of buying an “approved” car feels like a waste—it’s clear that the quality control process failed. If this is the standard of an approved car, you’re better off saving your money and buying elsewhere. I definitely wouldn’t recommend trusting the "Mercedes-Benz Approved Used" label based on my experience.

Amazing service from an amazing team. They made it so easy from viewing the car, test driving, completing the paperwork and the handover.

We had an issue with our windscreen jets not working at 16:00 on Friday 27th December. We called and Louise managed to get us booked in with the mechanic that day and get them fixed so we could drive back to London. Another great experience. Excellent service from a very professional team. Had a slight hiccup during service and the manager dealt with me proffessionaly. I have experience dreadful service in West Yorkshire Mercedes-Benz dealers. Harrogate are a different class, they set the standard I would expect. Well done to everyone in the team.

Great service from Victoria and the service team. Had an issue a with my E-Class and all was resolved quickly and efficiently following an inspection by Glen. Parts required were ordered and arrived within 24hrs, new parts fitted and back on the road quicker than I hoped for. Communication was excellent all the way through. The icing on the cake was a discount labour for older vehicles!! Couldn’t be more happy. Highly recommend to anybody. Won’t hesitate to come back in the future.
