Really don't know where to start with this but long story short is they've made a total pig's ear of not fixing my Huawei P20 Pro phone - after spending over £130 I'm left with a phone that's hardly any better than when I took it in to be 'fixed' last December.

I'll start with the one positive which is that I also had the pocket fluff in the charging socket issue that others have had. Jake could have easily taken the phone away from me, spent 15 minutes in the back doing whatever then returned & charged me for 'repairing' it, but he did the honest thing, told me what the problem was & cleaned it in a couple of minutes FoC, so fair play for that.

As for the rest of my experience a full report of my various trips into this shop & the litancy of faulty repairs & broken promises would take a couple of thousand words, so this is a very superficial edit.

My phone initially had a screen replaced in December. It took 3 goes to get this correct, each one being a prolonged episode of multiple shop visits & calls not being made or returned when promised.

By September the phone was faulty once again, the home screen & sensor button stopped working meaning that all biometrics that I'd set up no longer work. I was told that the December repair was only covered by 3 months warranty & I'd have to pay for a new repair which I was very unhappy with (& justifiably so).

Cue another endless series of phone calls, excuses: "I need to speak to the boss" - when's that going to happen? - "I'll get back to you" - & another visit to the shop to remind Jake the promised call never happened. Rinse & repeat half a dozen times (this isn't an exaggeration).

On my last visit 2 weeks last Thursday my tolerance of this reached its breaking point. Jake was told very firmly - but in a controlled way that wasn't sweary or shouty - that enough was enough. On this occasion Jake did actually call me back later as promised. After over double figures in promises of a call back from either Jake, the other guy who's there on Jake's days off or the elusive, mystery 'boss' I had finally achieved a call made when promised. However this was to inform me firstly that he'd spoken to 'the boss' who was going to call me & secondly that I was no longer welcome in the shop because it seems that having a customer tell them that their dreadful service isn't good enough & needs to become much better isn't acceptable.

I've waited a couple of weeks & of course 'the boss' hasn't called as promised. It's the safest bet of the year that he wouldn't - the only time we've ever spoken was in December when after listening to my complaint he said he needed a couple of days to check things out with his staff (fair enough) & would call me back - & never did. When that attitude & behaviour starts at the top it's no surprise to find it endemic throughout his company.

I'll be in Malaysia in February so I'll take the phone to the official Huawei shop there & have it properly fixed for what it would cost me to get Feng to 'repair' it with another worthless 3 months guarantee. Of course that's not an option for most so my advice is not to touch these guys with a bargepole.

I don't know what their core problem is but I guess it can only be either poor quality workmanship, or using cheap crappy components. My instinct is that technically Jake knows what he's doing, so I have to conclude that the core problem is Feng cutting corners by using cheap, low quality components. Anyway I've written this off now; I'm sure their 3 month guarantee wouldn't stand legal scrutiny but I just can't be bothered dealing with these guys any more it's way too painful.

My original intent, when the dust had died down had been to review with a 1 star rating & up it to 2 stars to recognise Jake doing right with the pocket fluff issue. But after last Thursday that can whistle.

I'll call this outfit for what they are - a bunch of bodgers who do sub-optimal work & never keep to their word.

I was having issues with charging my phone. Super honest chap, he sorted it by cleaning it for free. Some places may have pretended it was something serious to make some easy money.

Highly recommend the staff at the Maidenhead branch, they have repaired my screen on my IPhone 12 mini, replaced a screen protector, and fitted cases and a screen protector to my daughter’s phone. Having dropped my phone twice in a month they have been my saving grace. My ‘go to’ place in town for all things tech.
