The Lincolnshire wolds are a amazing place, rolling fields as far as the eye can see, not a sky scraper in sight.

If you want wide open spaces with lovely rolling hills and nobody around to spoil the views, then this is where you should be. Abundant footpaths criss-cross the countryside and there are plenty of pubs to keep you in food and drink. Also, close proximity to the coast, so you can have a variety of experiences. Prices are good and the east is dry, compared with the west. Don't expect big hills and mountains, but if you want a sense of isolation, you can find it. Great for dog-walking.

This is old England. You can be behind a tractor for miles. A lot of the roads are narrow. This is like stepping back in time to a less hurried past a slower pace of life. In the centre of Louth is the rather spectacular St James Cathedral in the Wold. I have been coming to the area for many years and it never fails to impress.

A gorgeous landscape as you drive toward the coast. This is the view I pass most mornings on my way to work. I could never tire of seeing it.

This area is really well known for its beautiful skies, and that hadn't really registered with me until we came to live here! Photos attached of the most beautiful skies I've ever seen! Please note, none of these have been edited other than cropping.

A wonderful place to live or to visit, with rolling hills and quiet roads leading to ancient villages with traditional pubs.

Highlights include the Viking Way which traverses the Wolds and offers a great way to explore, as do the many footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes. Walkers, runners, cyclists and horse riders will love what the Wolds can offer: with great scenery around almost every turn: but without the excessive traffic / hordes of visitors that afflict many other better known scenic areas.

The Lincolnshire Wolds is definitely one of England’s hidden gems: just don’t tell everyone! 🙂
