Unfortunately we had a bad experience in here a couple of days ago. I came in with my four year old and received one too many ‘huffs’ and ‘tuts’. When my little boy picked up an umbrella and suggested it was a walking stick I felt the atmosphere get worse ?. I then went to ask the lady behind the reception where the prices of the Jams may be located, to which I had the reply “I am serving a customer right now”. Really I understand not wanting to be rude but surely just a nod to the direction of the price tag wouldn’t have been to much to ask The last straw was another dig at my son to which I decided to head to Waitrose to get bits for a hamper. The customer service at Waitrose is always second to none and may also be a recommended visit to the staff here? It’s a shame as Hitchin is full of families and expected the shop to be warmer to a young mother wanting to spend money in a local shop

This is a charming underrated town with a beautifully proportioned street called Bancroft. Purports to the finest in the county.There are jettied medieval 16th century houses juxtaposed with Georgian and Queen Anne houses. The architectural beauty extends into Sun Street, Bucklesbury and Tilehouse street with a plethora of old buildings and eclectic shops. The Priory is another stunning building. There are numerous antique and gift shops in the alleys adjacent to the church running parallel with the High Street.There is a vibrant market twice a week in the market square located next to the river Hiss. Civic pride extended to the renovation of an early 20th century taxi cabin which sits proudly in the old town square by the old corn exchange which is now a large pub. Well worth a visit
